Description

Guided Tour through the Exhibition

June 12th at 7 pm.

Exhibition "Dream Catcher"

Dedicated to the comic book artist Aleksandar Zograf, one of the most significant representatives of the alternative and autobiographical comic scene in the region and beyond, opens on Friday, June 6th at 8 pm, in the space of Balkan Cinema (Braće Jugovića 16).

Through drawings, facsimiles, publications, and accompanying materials, the exhibition follows Zograf's multi-decade artistic practice in which the comic becomes a diary, chronicle, and dream book.

The focus of the exhibition is on dreams — the thematic and formal starting point for numerous Zograf's comics, which the author records from the so-called hypnagogic state, between wakefulness and sleep. In this sense, the title of the exhibition – "Dream Catcher" – refers to Zograf's role as a dream catcher, an artist who transforms images from the unconscious into narratives using his own authorial language.

The exhibition curator, Stevan Vuković, combines formalistic and psychoanalytic theories of comics in his approach, illuminating Zograf's creativity as both intimate and universal, as a space of personal reveries and collective reality.

In addition to Zograf's works, visitors will be able to see visual interpretations of his comic book scenes in textile works by Gordana Basta, who, through traditional embroidery techniques, transfers motifs from drawings into a tactile medium.

The exhibition is open until June 28th, and admission is free.
