Exhibition “DUE ATTENTION” by Miodrag Manojlović and Bjorn Hegardt

In the exhibition Due Attention, works by two artists, Miodrag Manojlović and Bjorn Hegardt, are presented. They explore, in different but complementary ways, how to find orientation in a world that has lost stable coordinates. The curator of the exhibition is Predrag Terzić.

In a time that Bruno Latour describes as “the end of the modern compass,” when divides between global and local no longer provide reliable anchors, their works do not offer maps that guarantee safety but function as toponyms of duration — points of orientation in a space without a stable center. The viewer is not confronted with images of the world but with exercises in being within it: Manojlović slows time through 360 hand-drawn frames, while Hegardt animates space with looping animations and spatial lines. They share a common relationship to the frame, the basic unit of cinematic thinking, but use it in diametrically opposite ways. Manojlović breaks movement into motionless cross-sections that the viewer must connect by moving around the installation, whereas Hegardt offers continuous movement from which no stable frame can be isolated. Both thus show that time is not merely something we observe but something we move through, turning it into a spatial experience of attention.

At the center of the exhibition is the question of how to orient oneself when firm ground disappears beneath one's feet. Manojlović responds with an ecology of attention: his drawings emerge as fossil traces of time spent observing, where repetition does not lead to monotony but to an accumulation of intensity, turning expected emptiness into fulfillment. Hegardt, on the other hand, constructs an expanded drawing that leaves the paper and becomes a three-dimensional map of movement. His structures are unstable, fluid, and subject to constant transformation, reminding us that orientation is not a matter of position but of movement. Both artists share the conviction that a new universality is not found in grand narratives but in small, bodily acts of attention: in the gaze that lingers, the hand that repeats a line, and the step that circles a space. The exhibition therefore does not offer answers but methods for remaining present in a world that is continuously changing — through slowness, transformation, and attention to what grows at the margins. This is not art that comments on the loss of ground, but art that becomes itself an exercise in new ways of finding one's way.
