September 26, Saturday, 6:00 PM — Joe Claussell, Nikola Vemić, Vlada Janjić, Marko Milosavljević, Karmakoma

SEPTEMBER 26 | After years as Lovefest’s former head programmer, Nikola Vemić (@vemicn) presents a 12-hour House format at Karmakoma, running from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Joe Clausell (@joeclaussellsplaygroundd), a Brooklyn-born DJ and producer of Puerto Rican and French descent, is the first guest in the series, joined by veterans Vlada Janjić (@vladimirjanjic), Marko Milosavljević, and Vemić himself.

From his beginnings at the Dance Tracks record store, which he later ran, to launching the influential house labels Spiritual Life Music and Ibadan Records, organic African, Brazilian, Latin, and Middle Eastern rhythms crossing over into disco, jazz, house, and electronic records have been at the core of Joe’s collection. This approach has taken him around the world. While simultaneously handling every aspect of running a business, including graphic design, Joe still found time to collaborate and remix artists such as Femi Kuti, Herbie Hancock, Beth Orton, Cesaria Evora, Nina Simone, Stewart Matthewman (Sade), Cassandra Wilson, and Diana Ross, to name a few. Much like what we’re doing here, in 1996 Joe Claussell joined Francois K and Danny Krivit to play for the legendary “Body & Soul” Sunday afternoon dance party.
