Everyone is invited to the Film Club with a Philosopher — embark on a journey through three centuries of Russian history without leaving the walls of the Hermitage 🤩

Together with the film's characters

• we'll walk through the halls of memory
• meet an empress, grand duchesses and our contemporaries
• see how past and present exist simultaneously, and
• witness history presented as a single stream of time

After the screening we'll discuss:

• why does the Hermitage become the film's main character?
• how are personal memory and cultural memory connected?
• is "Russian Ark" a film about Russia or about human civilization as a whole?

The discussion will be moderated by Y. M. Maltseva, PhD, Associate Professor (St. Petersburg State University)

Everyone is welcome — regardless of their level of familiarity with philosophy or art history.
