Ibrica Jusić: Classic of Yugoslav Chanson

Ibrica Jusić, a classic of Yugoslav chanson, returns to Belgrade after a full decade, where on December 27th at 8 PM he will hold an exclusive concert at the Youth Center. He has dedicated his entire life and artistic journey to love, immortalizing it through song, voice, and guitar. In anticipation of the holidays, Jusić will gift the Belgrade audience an unforgettable evening filled with pure, warm emotions and timeless melodies from his rich career.

Career of Ibrica Jusić

Jusić first performed as a singer with a guitar on the steps in Dubrovnik in 1965, and began his chanson career in 1968, winning the Zagreb Festival with the song "Celuloidni pajac," for which he also won the audience award. Relying on elements of French chanson, he has created a recognizable and very authentic authorial expression over the years, belonging to this region. This particularly applies to his early works, such as the songs: "Mačka," "Jubi san vašu ćer," "Dobro jutro, Margareta," "Ponoć."

He gained all-Yugoslav discographic fame with albums:

• "Skaline od sudbine" (1975)
• "Nostromo" (1976)
• "Ne dajte da vas zavedu" (1978)
• "Čovjek bez kafića" (1980)

He further distinguished himself by successfully composing to the verses of Shakespeare, Brecht, Paljetak, Antić, Britvić, and others, as well as through emotional performances of classic chanson covers, such as "Nemoj poći sad."

For decades he has been a hallmark of the Dubrovnik Summer Games, where he regularly appears as the host of midnight concerts, along with solo guitar recitals in the representative Rector's Palace.

Milestones in Career

A milestone in his work was his first symphonic album "Ibrica" (1981), done in rich Mediterranean arrangements by his older brother, maestro Đela Jusić, who wrote anthological songs for Ibrica, such as: "U svakom slučaju te volim," "Na Stradunu," and "Šalom Sarah."

He once again confirmed his artistic breadth by recording a whole series of the most beautiful Bosnian sevdalinke in new, modern arrangements, released on the album "Amanet" (2003) – it is enough to just hear "Eminu" in his unique interpretation.

Inviting the audience to this unique gathering at the Youth Center, Ibrica Jusić rightly promises that he will lead us "from Shakespeare to sevdah."

An additional curiosity is that he always performs with his faithful companion, a dog that follows him everywhere.

The magnificent musical career of a wandering character, personified by Ibrica Jusić, is unique in our regions. Recently turning eighty, he continues to captivate with his vitality, authentic warmth, and above all, artistic and personal dignity and nobility.
