Description

Practical Psychology in the Professional Sphere

Auditoriya, together with psychologist ayaz.help, is launching a mini-series of lectures “Practical Psychology in the Professional Sphere.” In the first lecture of the mini-series we'll examine how conflicts arise and develop in professional life: from contradiction and tension to open confrontation and attempts to negotiate.

Were you discussing a task with a colleague and then suddenly started recalling all past grievances, and an ordinary work disagreement turned into a standoff? Have you noticed that we say 'Nothing personal' when there is already quite a lot of personal content in the conversation?

At the first meeting we will discuss:

  • How disagreement differs from an open conflict and what really lies behind each side's demands?
  • How conflicts develop: from the first signs of tension to escalation, peak, and resolution. At what point can the course of events still be changed?
  • How conflict triggers work and why a sharp response launches the next round of dispute?
  • Behavioral strategies in conflict: competition, avoidance, accommodation, compromise, and collaboration — and when each of them is appropriate?
  • Is conflict always bad? How it can reveal problems the team has long kept silent about and help change the rules of interaction?

We will also analyze familiar workplace situations and find that exact moment when the conversation can still be steered in a constructive direction.

The lecture is led by

ayaz.help — a psychologist, tutor, author, and host of educational programs. They completed bachelor's and master's degrees at Moscow State Pedagogical University (MPGU) in practical psychology, including practical psychology in education and business. Since 2023 they have maintained a private practice. They have experience in group work, counseling adults, and participating in negotiation formats.
