In the cycle Critics Have Chosen – a traditional exhibition that, as a reception of contemporary visual art critics in the Art Gallery, has been continuously organized since 1967 – Sofija Milenković, an art historian and the recipient of the Lazar Trifunović Award for the year 2020, curated an exhibition entitled It's Just the End of the World for the year 2026.

The exhibition It’s Just the End of the World presents artists who share an interest in speculation about worlds that constitute a discontinuity with the world of our empirical experience and/or in investigating potential scenarios of the near or distant future. Implemented through a methodological framework defined by concepts of science fiction, worldbuilding, and speculation, their works constitute various alternative realities and worlds (futures) that are primarily imagined as dystopias pointing towards some kind of collapse or arising as a result of its consequences. Even when they take the form of a symbiotic utopia, their inception is based on urgent contemporary issues, such as the human relationship to the non-human, the dysfunction of dominant systems, and the omnipresence of technology. While drawing our attention to these problems and prompting us to think about their causes and consequences, systemic and structural interconnections, as well as potential solutions, the gathered research opens up a space for reflection on the ambivalent relationship we have towards them and the place they occupy in our everyday lives.
