Lecture: Modern Serbia: Customs That Are Still Observed Today
Description
Seasonal Customs and Holidays of the Serbian People
Do you know of a Serbian holiday dedicated to fashion and new clothes? And what is a “red letter” and why is it dangerous (spoiler: it isn’t)? What’s the deal with “glory”? Do newlyweds suffer in May? And what should you absolutely avoid congratulating Serbs on?
Seasonal customs and holidays form the foundation not only of the work and academic calendar, but also of the domestic, culinary, and even musical traditions of the Serbian people. Everyone will be able to discover the most unexpected and touching moments in the traditional Serbian calendar—and at the same time learn where and how to experience them, participate in them, or organize them themselves.
