Lecture and Hands-On Workshop on Adult Puppet Theater
Overview
A lecture and hands-on workshop on adult puppet theater. Discussion of the origins of puppet theater in the USSR and Europe, the differences between puppet theater and dramatic theater, the role of metaphor and puppets, postmodernism, Freud, and contemporary directors. The lecture will be led by Nikolai Navrotsky—a puppet theater director, actor, and choreographer. Following the lecture, there will be a hands-on workshop with actress Natalie and Nikolai.
Workshop Program
- THEATER FROM NOTHING—creating characters from everyday materials and theatrical exercises.
- PUPPET TECHNIQUES AND MANIPULATION—a demonstration of a professional puppeteer at work and opportunities for participants to try manipulating a puppet.
