Why I Love Contemporary Kazakhstan
Description
Why I Love Contemporary Kazakhstan?
When we hear the word "Kazakhstan", stereotypical images often come to mind: endless steppes, yurts, and a page from a school geography textbook. But contemporary Kazakhstan is much more.
It's a vibrant music scene, local fashion, independent media, new gastronomic projects, stand-up comedy, contemporary art, and people who are rethinking their culture.
Ira Evdokimova — founder of Femtech Force and a researcher of technologies for women's health. In recent years she has worked with Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries and repeatedly rediscovers the region — through trips, meetings and local projects.
At this meetup
- we'll discuss Kazakh performers and listen to tracks (not Skriptonit and not Irina Kairatovna)
- we'll look at how local designers and brands reinterpret Kazakh aesthetics
- we'll break down a few stand-up jokes and talk about the cultural context
- we'll talk about Kazakh cuisine and why food also helps to understand the country
Ira will share her top 10 places to visit (not only in Almaty). This will be a live conversation, not a lecture — bring your favorite places, people, books or musical discoveries related to Kazakhstan.
