Eating Disorders: What the Body Won't Tell
Description
Auditoria Belgrade
EDs: What the Body Won't Tell
Until recently, there was a fairly persistent set of clichés around EDs: a “typical anorexic” — a teenager on fluoxetine, using laxatives, smearing food on their plate, and with pronounced emaciation. A rigid, almost stereotypical image through which eating disorders were long perceived.
But today specialists know: EDs often look very different. They can hide behind “clean eating”, endless calorie counting, fitness control, anxiety about every meal, and a drive to conform to the ideal at any cost.
Because EDs are not about food. They're about emotion regulation, control, self-esteem, and psychological pain.
In the lecture we'll talk about:
- 🤩 which forms of eating disorders are common today
- 🤩 what psychological and biological mechanisms underlie them
- 🤩 when medication is necessary and what it helps with
- 🤩 which psychotherapy methods have truly proven effective
The lecture will be useful for psychologists, psychiatrists, helping professionals, and anyone who wants to better understand the nature of eating disorders — without myths, stigma, or oversimplified views.
