Bosnia and Herzegovina: Eldar… Ljubisa Ristic: Slaves by Ivan Cankar are not only the most famous Slovenian dramatic text, but also a work that marked the beginning of modern Slovenian theater. Cankar, the eternal rebel, raises the question of obedience and rebellion in Slaves - a question that still sounds equally alive today. Our ensemble revisits it, through the prism of contemporary theater: actors from Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Croatia, Slovenia, and Bosnia, together with Russian investors, Hungarian and Arab AI robots, bring Cankar to life in all languages of the former Yugoslavia and future languages. The performance develops as theater within a theater: while the actors play themselves and their roles in Cankar's works, new actors enter the stage - financiers, programmers, and algorithms. People and machines perform texts (from ancient times and Shakespeare, through Chekhov to Brecht) that shaped the idea of theater as a space of freedom and confrontation with life. In this mix of parody and seriousness, comedy and existential drama, theater explores its own future as well as the future of the world.
