The Necks

The legendary The Necks are back!

The Necks — an Australian trio from Sydney that plays a distinctive form of improvised music at the intersection of minimalism, jazz and drone. The group has existed since 1987 in an unchanged lineup: Крис Абрахамс (piano, organ), Ллойд Свонтон (double bass, bass guitar) and Тони Бак (drums, percussion).

Their trademark method is extended, often hour-long improvisations that grow out of a single simple idea or figure and gradually, almost imperceptibly, transform through accumulation and repetition, approaching the effect of Steve Reich or Terry Riley's minimalism while remaining rooted in free jazz. At concerts, The Necks typically play a single continuous set without pauses or a predetermined structure — the musicians shape the form on the fly, responding to one another.

The group has long been regarded as one of the most respected and influential ensembles in the field of improvised music.
