Invitation to the Opening Ceremony of the Exhibition

  • 📌 We are pleased to invite you to the opening ceremony of the exhibition "Traditional Jewelry of the Balkans from the 18th to the Early 20th Century from the Collection of the Museum of Applied Art" curator of the Metal and Jewelry Collection Mile Gajić, on Friday, November 6, 2026, at 7 PM, in the Museum's Main Gallery, which will mark this year's Museum of Applied Art Day.
  • 💍 Visitors will be presented with a selection of two hundred and sixty objects, including puffs, tepelins, belts, earrings, breast ornaments, and other types of adornments, which testify to the richness of forms and motifs, as well as the symbolic role of jewelry.
  • 💍 With this exhibition, the Museum of Applied Art presents a precious and lesser-known part of its jewelry collection, which largely originates from the former collection of art objects by the painter and printmaker Ljubomir Ivanović (1882–1945).
  • 👑 At the same time, we want to introduce this type of heritage to a contemporary audience, as well as to artists, especially jewelry designers, who can find inspiration in its forms, motifs, and meanings for their own creative explorations and new design solutions. A segment of the exhibition is dedicated to this very idea of a dialogue between tradition and contemporary artistic expression, in which the jewelry brand "Hota Hota" presents its interpretation of the pafta and tepelenk.
  • 🗓️ A lecture series will be organized during the exhibition's run.
  • 📌 At the opening, the acting director of the Museum of Applied Art, Dr. Stevan Martinović, and the exhibition's curator, senior curator Mila Gajić, will address the attendees. The exhibition will be opened by Dr. Vesna Bikić, a scientific advisor at the Archaeological Institute and a corresponding member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
  • 📌 The exhibition "Traditional Jewelry of the Balkans from the 18th to the Early 20th Century from the Collection of the Museum of Applied Art" can be viewed from November 6, 2026, to February 28, 2027.
