Art in the Service of Faith: Splendor and Glory of the Karlovci Metropolitanate

Matica Srpska Gallery is presenting the exhibition 'Art in the Service of Faith: Splendor and Glory of the Karlovci Metropolitanate', on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the establishment of this important institution and the 200th anniversary of the founding of Matica Srpska. The official opening is scheduled for Friday, June 5 at 8:00 PM, and the event will be complemented by a performance by the Choir of the Cathedral Church of Saint George from Novi Sad.

Historical heritage and visual culture

The exhibition presents the complex development of Serbian church art in the modern era across two centuries. Through iconostases, wall painting, portraits and graphic works, the exhibition illuminates the spiritual authority and cultural identity of the community. Visitors will have the opportunity to see carefully selected works from leading national, regional and European museums and eparchies.

Guided tours and accompanying programs

In addition to the art exhibits, the exhibition includes a range of multimedia content, a short documentary film and a special family guide designed for the youngest visitors. Accompanying programs for the public will take place on Fridays at 7:00 PM, while expert curator-led tours are available on weekends at 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM. The exhibition is open to visitors until 27 September 2026.
