Vladimir Surdin: Space Resources — The Economy of the Future.

It's commonly believed that space is a vast void. Broadly speaking that's true, but the details matter.

Beyond Earth there is much that doesn't exist on our planet. Take, for example, the void itself — the vacuum. On Earth, scientists and engineers expend considerable effort to create it. In space it is free and of much higher quality.

• On Earth we build gigantic and very expensive particle accelerators, while particles come from space on their own, and with much greater energy.
• On Earth it will never be possible to compress matter to the densities of cosmic bodies or to produce magnetic fields like those found in space.
• Beyond Earth we have ideal spaceports and inexhaustible energy sources waiting for us.
• And what about gold, platinum and diamonds? Vladimir Georgievich will talk about that too!
