Conway the Machine

Conway the Machine — an American rapper, one of the key representatives of the contemporary New York hip-hop scene and a member of the collective Griselda, which, together with Westside Gunn and Benny the Butcher, brought the gritty sound of the East Coast back to the mainstream.

Conway (real name — Demond Price) began his career in the early 2000s, but his real breakthrough came in the mid-2010s thanks to Griselda's independent releases. Their music was first noticed by fans of underground rap and later by major artists. In 2017 Griselda signed a deal with Shady Records.

One of the most dramatic events in his life occurred in 2012: Conway survived a gunshot wound to the head and neck. After that he was left with partial paralysis of the facial muscles (Bell's palsy), which is noticeable when he speaks. Rather than hiding the consequences of the injury, he made them part of his image and art, often recounting his experiences in his lyrics.
