The Play
- Accidental Death of an Anarchist (Knjaževsko-srpski teatar, Kragujevac)
- Duration: 90 minutes
Official Report
On 06 December 2025, at the venue known as Knjaževsko-srpski teatar in Kragujevac, a premiere performance of the play titled ACCIDENTAL DEATH OF AN ANARCHIST was held. No incidents were recorded, apart from occasional uncontrollable laughter from the audience.
During the investigation, the following was established: the authors and performers of the aforementioned stage case stated, under moral (but not criminal) responsibility, that the play in question was created based on the true events of 16 December 1969, which were, allegedly, shaped into art by Dario Fo, a person previously known to the police. In the 1970 archives of the Milan Police, material evidence was found confirming that the plot is based on the “accidental death” of a young anarchist, Giuseppe Pinelli, who on that occasion suddenly and without warning fell out of a window.
The director of the production, hitherto unknown to law enforcement, stated that the piece focuses on Italy’s then criminally corrupt police apparatus and that he did not wish to further update the play. The dramaturg of this theatrical case, likewise unknown to the authorities, was charged with revolutionary statements while speaking about the period in which Dario Fo wrote the play: “In a world where corruption is the rule, not the exception, and the people, pushed into the welfare queue, take to the streets to demand their rights, and where the police arm themselves against their own people, it is unlikely that disarmament will happen at the ballot box.” She nevertheless had the indictment dropped by presenting evidence that this is a direct quote from Fo’s drama.
As for all claims about the work on the production being fun, fast, and exciting, there were no witnesses; therefore, those statements are not deemed valid. The participants in this theatrical case claim that during the preparatory process no one’s life was endangered, apart from a few props and the stage manager’s patience.
Finally, all parties in this theatrical case stated that any resemblance between the play and current events is purely coincidental.
