Description

Dream Catcher Exhibition

Dedicated to the comic book artist Aleksandar Zograf, one of the most significant representatives of the alternative and autobiographical comic scene in the region and beyond, it opens on Friday, June 6 at 8 p.m., at the space of Balkan Cinema (Braće Jugovića 16).

Through drawings, facsimiles, publications, and accompanying materials, the exhibition follows Zograf's decades-long artistic practice in which the comic becomes a diary, a chronicle, and a dream book.

The focus of the exhibition is on dreams—the thematic and formal starting point of numerous Zograf's comics, which the author records from the so-called hypnagogic state, between wakefulness and sleep. In this sense, the title of the exhibition – 'Dream Catcher' – points to Zograf's role as a dream catcher, an artist who transforms images from the unconscious into narratives with his authorial language.

The curator of the exhibition, Stevan Vuković, in his approach combines formalist and psychoanalytic theories of comics, illuminating Zograf's work as both intimate and universal, as a space of personal dream visions and collective reality.

In addition to Zograf's works, visitors will be able to see visual interpretations of his comic scenes in textile works by Gordana Basta, who transfers motifs from drawings into a tactile medium through traditional embroidery techniques.

The exhibition is open until June 28, and admission is free.
