KROKODIL Engaging Words

We are honored that during July the renowned Dutch historian, Professor Ger Duijzings, will be staying at KROKODIL's writers' house as its 157th guest. The start of his month-long stay in Serbia will be marked by an appearance at the KROKODIL festival on Saturday, 4 July at 12:00, when a discussion titled From Srebrenica to Gaza: from legitimation to denial will take place. The discussion links regional experience with current global crises and explores the thin line between historical facts and their deliberate relativization and erasure.

Two regional experts in history and memory culture will speak with Ger Duijzings

• 🎤 Dubravka Stojanović – historian, one of the most important voices of critical thought in our country, recipient of the Peace Award from the Belgrade Centre for Peace and Democracy (2011) for her long-term work on reconciliation in Southeast Europe through the reform of history teaching.
• 🎤 Olga Manojlović Pintar – senior research associate at the Institute for Recent History of Serbia and a specialist in memory culture, whose work analyzes how historical consciousness is created (or erased) through monuments and identities.

Moderator

This conversation, which will be conducted in English, will be moderated by Snežana Stanković, a researcher whose work focuses on the Holocaust and genocidal violence against Bosniaks during the wars of the 1990s, genocidal imagination and mechanisms of incitement to genocide, as well as sexual violence in war, forced displacement and networks of solidarity, with a particular focus on the territories of the former Yugoslavia, Germany, Palestine and Israel.

Ger Duijzings is staying in Belgrade thanks to the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
