Description
On September 15, the Museum of Applied Arts will open a traveling exhibition from the Japan Foundation titled “NINGYŌ: THE ART AND BEAUTY OF JAPANESE DOLLS”
About the Exhibition
The exhibition is dedicated to Japanese dolls and the culture that has developed around them throughout Japan’s history. The exhibition will be divided into four thematic sections:
- The first section will feature dolls used as amulets to protect children;
- The second section will feature dolls created in various styles and techniques that stand as works of art in their own right;
- The third section will highlight the simplicity and diversity of regional folk crafts;
- The fourth section will introduce the public to contemporary trends in this culture in Japan, which continue to evolve today.
Japanese Ambassador Naohiro Tsutsumi and Acting Museum Director Dr. Stevan Martinović will speak at the official opening of the exhibition.
