Opera Lab

The new orchestration of Pagliacci was not created merely as an adaptation of Leoncavallo's score for a smaller performing ensemble. It is part of the play's dramaturgy itself.

Orchestrator and conductor Aleksandar Gutić @syndryxx builds a new sonic world for accordion (@alex_rose73), guitar (@ognjengrcak), wind quintet and clarinet (@brassolini_), violin (@bulatkiki) and percussion (@katalinaa_e).

The orchestra's position is not fixed. Musicians exist in the same space as the performers and the audience, moving through the venue and becoming part of the stage action. This changes one of the basic conventional relationships in opera: the music no longer comes from an isolated space, but arises directly with the event it accompanies.
