Muzej primenjene umetnosti

Invitation to the ceremonial opening of the exhibition

  • 📌 We are pleased to invite you to the ceremonial opening of the exhibition “Traditional Jewelry of the Balkans from the 18th to the early 20th century from the collection of Muzej primenjene umetnosti” by Senior Curator of the Metal and Jewelry Collection, Mila Gajić, on Friday, 6 November 2026, at 7 pm, in the Museum’s Main Gallery, which this year will mark the Day of Muzej primenjene umetnosti.
  • 💍 Visitors will see a selection of two hundred and sixty pieces, including standout pafte, tepeluci, belts, earrings, chest ornaments, and other types of adornment, bearing witness to the richness of forms and motifs, as well as the symbolic role of jewelry.
  • 💍 With this exhibition, Muzej primenjene umetnosti presents a precious and lesser-known part of its jewelry collection, most of which comes from the former collection of art objects of the painter and printmaker Ljuba Ivanović (1882–1945).
  • 👑 At the same time, we want to bring this kind of heritage closer to today’s audiences and to artists—especially jewelry designers—who can find inspiration in its forms, motifs, and meanings for their own research and new design solutions. Dedicated to that very dialogue between tradition and contemporary authorial expression is the segment of the exhibition in which the jewelry brand “Hota Hota” presents its take on the pafta and the tepeluk.
  • 🗓️ A series of talks will be organized over the course of the exhibition.
  • 📌 At the opening, remarks will be given by Acting Director of Muzej primenjene umetnosti, Dr. Stevan Martinović, and the exhibition’s author, Senior Curator Mila Gajić. The exhibition will be opened by Dr. Vesna Bikić, research advisor at Arheološki institut and a corresponding member of Srpska akademija nauka i umetnosti.
  • 📌 The exhibition “Traditional Jewelry of the Balkans from the 18th to the early 20th century from the collection of Muzej primenjene umetnosti” will be on view from 6 November 2026 to 28 February 2027.
