The Little Prince
Description
A word from the director:
Our planet, blessed with springs, mountains, oceans and forests, roses, sheep, foxes and even snakes, is inhabited by serious people. They hurry, count, worry, and so burdened, they forget things that are invisible to the naked eye, things that give life meaning – love, tenderness, imagination and play. Children know this best. So do some adults who are lucky enough to spend a lot of time with children and enjoy it. Those are the adults who can still recognize the elephant inside the boa constrictor and hear the mischievous giggle of the stars on a clear night. They are rare, but that is not the greatest misfortune. The real misfortune of our time is that children forget to be just children.
About the play
In our play, which we created for a long time with patience and dedication, we tried to make sure we all understand as well as possible the work we chose to present to the audience. It is not a simple story. My first memories of The Little Prince, as a child who learned to read long before starting school, are uneasy. I was disturbed by the fact that The Little Prince not only dies at the end of the story but voluntarily goes into death, and I found it unfair that this was presented to me as his return home. At that time death was a terrifying thing for me; a child cannot fully grasp the concept of finality. It was necessary to rethink how to approach it and the discomfort it causes. That is not the only event in the book that confused us. Fortunately, the space of our play was free and comfortable so that we could talk, and often philosophize, about truly serious matters. How much Mia, Dunja, Ksenija, Jovana and I learned from the young performers, and not only us! And Damjan and Mateja and Željka and Nataša and Olja and everyone who was lucky enough to wander into our games. In each of these children and young people that you will see on stage, there hides a Little Prince or a Little Princess — loyal, fearless and curious. We hope the audience will remember our play as the Pilot remembered the encounter with the Little Prince in the Sahara and that they will tell the story about us for a long time and to many friends.
