About the film

This screening is deeply personal to me: Heal Me, my award-winning feature-length documentary debut, has traveled the world, while screenings in Serbia were censored despite an already agreed distribution after the prosecutor's office publicly revealed the name of the man who raped me without my consent.
It means a lot to me to now share the film with my Novi Sad—the film that, alongside my story, brings the experiences of other women and men who survived sexual violence, but also the confrontations of perpetrators with what they have done. I hope this screening will open space for an honest conversation, that together we break the stigma and take a step toward healing all of us from the most often hidden traumas.

Synopsis

The filmmaker tries to cope with the consequences of the sexual violence she survived, while filming the immediate testimonies of others — from a nurse who collected forensic evidence herself after a rape, to a pedophile who was sexually abused as a child. Heal Me follows both victims and perpetrators on a harrowing journey of speaking out, healing, and moving on with life.
