About the artists

Sári Szántó and Dasha Sz. are an artistic duo working together as the art group Drawing Dates. After nine years living together in Moscow, they moved to Budapest in 2020. Their practice grows out of a dialogue between two distinct approaches: Dasha, an architect and woodworker, finds beauty in raw edges and the accidental quirks of structures; Sári, an artist and maestro, works with collage, unraveling forgotten stories through found images, objects, and textiles.

About the exhibition

The show brings together works they created collaboratively over the past year.

“The theme of the nest has kept surfacing in our work since 2020, when we moved to Budapest. We began setting up a new home, building a base out of big and small elements. While each of us continues to develop her own artistic practice, our joint work is an ongoing game of intellectual and visual ping-pong: we pass ideas and canvases back and forth, taking turns carrying on what the other began,” the artists say.

The works on view are mostly abstract; Sári Szántó and Dasha Sz. observe the urban environment and then distill that experience into pared-back forms and graphic elements. From these playful parts, new spaces emerge where it’s hard to tell the imagined from the real, or a still life from a landscape.
