It’s a special evening for Tamara and Nikola. They are celebrating the news of Tamara’s second pregnancy when Tamara’s brother, David, appears covered in blood. The romantic evening turns into a courtroom in which they must confront everything that lies within and around them.

DIRECTOR'S NOTE

Orphans is a play that raises the question of whether it is possible to protect one’s inner world (in which we do not necessarily have to be alone) under the pressure of everything that happens outside. The awareness of how much the outside world, where violence is dominant, affects our mutual relationships led me to the crucial question: is it possible to love each other sincerely if even one of us has a value system subject to change due to specific circumstances that provoke our (ideological) divergences?

What was particularly interesting for me as a director to explore during this process is the position of human nature which, a priori inclined toward the idea of community, becomes very ambivalent when it comes to personal interests of any kind.

If there are cracks through which worlds are exchanged, they are always, surely, within us. And we must learn to live with that.
